Abstract
The TT virus (TTV) is a recently discovered DNA virus which was first identified in patients with non-A to -G hepatitis. The study was conducted on one hundred patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). They were routinely attending the hemodialysis (HD) unit for performing Hemodialysis; and a Control group, which included 100 healthy, volunteers of the same geographic area. There serum were examined for TTV DNA by PCR. The overall prevalence of TTV viremia was 46% compared to 9% in healthy volunteers. we conclude that Abnormal liver enzymes were uncommon in HD patients infected with TTV alone. In a few patients on Maintenance HD there is a possibility that mild and transient abnormal liver enzymes above normal were caused by TTV infection could not be excluded.
