Abstract

In this study, a comparison was made between endocapsular phacoemulsification using stop & chop technique (Group A) and supracapsular phacoemulsification (Group B). The objective of this comparison was mainly to show the difference between these two techniques as regards total ultrasound time, total energy used, intraoperative complications and the effect on the corneal endothelium. The results obtained show that supracapsular phacoemulsification consumes more ultrasound time and energy, and has more impact on the corneal endothelium, )due to the fact that the phaco probe is closer to the cornea(, however, these changes were not statistically significant.
