Abstract

This study aimed to find out the minimum sperm parameters needed for effective sperm freezing and to compare between post thawing sperm parameters and ICSI outcome. This study included 248 patients who underwent 322-cryopreservation trial and 87 ICSI cycles. Patients were classified into two groups (I & II) according to pre freezing total sperm count. The minimal threshold of total sperm count and total motile sperm count necessary for recovery of viable spermatozoa suitable for injection is found to be 194 sperm, 41 sperm respectively. The number of ejaculated samples that were suitable for injection was significantly lower than samples obtained from other sources in groups (I and II). The percentage of good embryos to fertilized MII and pregnancy rate was significantly higher in-group (I) compared with group (II).
