Abstract

In our study, we aim to demonstrating the role of Phenyl Mannitol Broth Containing Aztreonam and Ceftizoxime in improving detection of (MRSA) isolated from hospitalized patients, out patients clinic and health care workers. The study was conducted on 98 patients selected from Air Force Hospital. One sample for each patient was taken. In our study we confirm the ability of PUMB+ for detection of MRSA in combination with mannitol salt agar. Oxacillin screen agar has failed detect 4 cases found to be MRSA by the other 2 methods. We noticed the high prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus in the anterior nares so we confirm that the anterior nares it is important site for reservoirs of Staphylococcus aureus and acting as a common source of infection, aggravation and exaggeration of clinical picture. So we suggest that if we can eradicate Staphylococcus aureus from anterior nares we may be able to control the aggravation of the infection.
