Cellulite describes the orange-peel dimpling of the skin, seen mostcommonly on the thighs and buttocks of 85-98% of post pubertal females of all races. There is no definitive explanation for its development, but the leading hypotheses that may explain it include; vascular, structural, hormonal, inflammatory and neurogenic theory. There are several methods to evaluate cellulite including clinical characteristics, thermography, plicometry, laser Doppler flowmetry, ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging. Therapeutic modalities of cellulite include attenuation of aggravating factors, mechanical treatment, topical treatment, mesotherapy, systemic herbal treatment, lasers and surgical treatment.
