Abstract

Growth hormone is a polypeptide hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. Both GH excess and deficiency may cause increased risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effects of GH deficiency and GH replacement therapy on left ventricular mass and function by echocardiography as well as lipid profile during childhood. Sixty patients documented to have GHD were included in the present study. Color doppler echo cardiography was performed for assessment of left ventricular systolic and diastolic functions, calculation of myocardial performance index, left ventricular mass and left ventricular mass index.
