Abstract

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) hasobtained a definite place in the management of peripheralarterial occlusive disease of the lower limb, it was widelyaccepted as a first line of treatment for many patients withfemoropopliteal occlusive disease. The low complication rateand relatively non invasive nature of PTA made it anincreasing popular intervention. The concept of endovascular intervention has beenwell supported by the continuous advance in technology. Therapid evolution of stent design, deployment approaches andadjunctive therapy made the practice of PTA safer and morepredictable and has reduced the incidence of procedurerelated adverse events, particularly the need for emergencysurgery.
