Abstract

Aim of the study: The study aims to evaluate bone mineral density (BMD) in Egyptian children suffering with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), also to evaluate the effect of colchicines treatment on growth and bone health and to assess physical growth in those patient.Method: Full history, examination, investigations, MEFV gene mutations and DEXA scan at left femur neck and lumber spine (l2-l4) were done. Patients (n=45) were divided into 2 groups: group 1A (n=23) (receiving colchicines < 1 month), group 1B (n=22)( receiving colchicines > 6 months).Group 2 (n=25)control. Results: FMF has a significant effect on BMD and growth. Colchicine improves height; and BMD. MEFV gene type also has an effect on BMD. E148Q hetero expresses the worthiest effect, followed by M680I hetero.
