Abstract

Cryptorchidism is one of the most common genital malformations inmales, its etiology remains largely unknown. Risk factors include lowbirth weight, prematurity, and twinning & gestational steroid use.Several studies indicate an increase in the prevalence of cryptorchidism within a few generations, supporting the hypothesis that lifestyle changes and environmental factors may be involved.Later in life, cryptorchidism is commonly followed by fertility problemsand an increased risk of testicularmalignancies.
