Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to study the patterns of glaucomas in the Glaucoma Subspecialty Clinics in Kasr Al-Aini University Hospital in the year 2013. Aim of Work: The aim of this study was to analyze the patterns of glaucomas in the Glaucoma Subspecialty Clinics in the year 2013 and conduct statistics to have an idea about epidemiology of glaucoma among Kasr Al-Aini Hospital patients and compare the results with nationally and internationally published data. Patients and Methods: The patients referred from general ophthalmology clinics to the Glaucoma Subspecialty Clinics were examined and all of their data were tabulated and saved. Statistics were run on this data and the results were studied and compared to published data. Results: Results showed clues about demographic data of the patients visiting the hospital as well as certain correlations and associations related to different types of glaucoma. The results show a great resemblance between our data and that published internationally concerning risk factors for open angle and closed angle glaucoma. Results also showed most common types of secondary glaucomas encountered during our practice. Conclusion: Kasr Al-Aini University Hospital receives a large number of glaucoma patients every year. Studying the demographic and clinical data of these patients showed that the part of Egyptian population visiting our hospital has similar but not identical patterns of glaucoma to those published internationally with similar risk factors. These statistics can help in improving service we offer to patients through understanding the magnitude of the glaucoma problem in our hospital.
