The HRCT technique attempts to optimize the demonstration of the lung anatomy. The most important modifications of CT technique used to increase spatial resolution are the uses of thin collimation and image reconstruction with a high-spatial frequency (sharp) algorithm. Increased Kilovolt (peak) [kV(p)] or milliamperes (mA) and targeted image reconstruction may also be used to improve image quality and increase spatial resolution, but these techniques are optional. The use of appropriate window settings and methods of image display are also necessary to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
