Abstract

Studies of familial clustering have consistently demonstrated that genetic susceptibility plays an important role in diabetic nephropathy and the gene encoding ACE is a potential candidate gene in its etiology. Genetic studies have revealed that the genes for (RAAS) are highly polymorphic, one of such is insertion/ deletion polymorphism in ACE gene .ACE gene has been described with an insertion/ deletion polymorphism (I/D) of 287bp sequence of DNA in intron 16 leading to three genotypes, II and DD homozygotes and ID heterozygotes .
