Abstract

More than 90% of patients undergoing coronary dilatation with percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) involve placement of coronary stent. This procedure requires long term use of antiplatelet agents which is mandatory for success of coronary stents.Any PCI causes trauma to the vessel wall rendering the endoluminal surface thrombogenic and thus, adjunctive antiplatelet therapy is a crucial element in preventing local coronary thrombosis. current recommendations call for initial dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin and clopidogrel. Aspirin is generally maintained for life.
