Abstract

One of the major complications of HCV infection is the development of hepatic fibrosis. Liver biopsy was the only way to evaluate hepatic fibrosis. The aim of our study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of endoglin and FIB-4 as non-invasive markers of hepatic fibrosis in HCV patients. Our results showed statistically significant differences of mean endoglin concentrations and FIB-4 levels in the studied groups. From these results, it was concluded that serum endoglin and FIB-4 index can be accepted as diagnostic predictors of the degree of hepatic fibrosis. Combination of both in a single equation has enhanced the accuracy of fibrosis detection.
