Abstract

Circulatory dysfunction in cirrhotic patients may cause aspecific kind of functional renal failure termed hepato-renalsyndrome (HRS). It contributes to the high incidence of renalfailure in cirrhotic intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Fluidtherapy may aggravate renal failure by increasing ascites andintra-abdominal pressure (IAP). This study will investigate theshort-term effects of a large volume paracentesis onhaemodynamics and kidney function in volume resuscitatedpatients with albumin. Renal function will be analyzed beforeand after plasma expansion with albumin and paracentesis.
