Objective: to investigate the value of maternal serum placental protein 13 (pp13) measurement and uterine artery Dopplar indices (RI and PI) during the first trimester screening as the prediction of early pre-eclampsia. Methods: 50 pregnant female were divided in two groups, twenty five as a control group and twenty five as high risk group; they were subjected to uterine artery Dopplar and measurement of maternal serum (pp-13) in first trimester at 11+0 to 13+6 weeks of gestation, all pregnancies were followed until 40 weeks for development of pre-eclampsia. Results: in the cases that developed pre-eclampsia in comparing with un- effected pregnancies it was noticed that they had low serum level of (pp-13) and higher (PI and RI) which were statistically significant difference. Conclusion: use of uterine artery Dopplar indices, in combination of measurement serum placental protein 13 (pp-13) as valuable as early prediction of pre-eclampsia in first trimester.
