Abstract

The gastric cancer rate differs in the Middle East from very high in Iran (26.1/10 5) to low in Israel (12.5/10 5) and very low in Egypt (3.4/10 5). Epidemiological studies showed that the prevalence of H. pylori is almost similar in those countries with a high level of infection in childhood. In The United States, the American Cancer Society estimates that in 2007, there were an estimated one million new cases, nearly 70% of them in developing countries and about 800,000 death. During the period from 2005 – 2010 the cases of the gastric adenocarcinoma presented to NEMROCK were 81, but only 44 cases received treatment and assessed . The different therapeutic majors were compared whether surgery, chemotherapy alone, radiotherapy alone or combined modality. It was found that using surgery had the highest median survival reaching 43 months. In absence of surgical intervention, using chemotherapy only or chemo- and radiotherapy had no effect on median survival. Comparing the different regimens applied, ( ECF, FOLFOX, CIS/5FU, Lev/5FU), they were comparable in terms of median survival, but time to disease progression was significantly higher in patients who received Leucoverin /5 Fu and lower in those who received Cisplain / 5Fu.
