Abstract

Background: Oligohydramnios is best defined as an amniotic fluid index less than 5th percentile for gestational age. The main causes are congenital renal anomalies( including renal agenesis, posterior urethral valve and multicystic dysplastic kidney disease), PPROM, IUGR and post term gestations. Diagnosis is confirmed by ultrasound examination and Doppler velocimetry has an important role in management. Management depend on gestational age and etiology. Objective: To compare different causes of oligohydramnios and Perinatal outcome and to compare different management protocols and identifying the best one.Patients and methods: Our study was conducted on 100 patient including 55 case of PPROM, 20 case of IUGR and 5 cases of congenital anomalies. The patients were subjected to complete general, obstetric examination and ultrasound exam (including Doppler velocimetry ).Results and conclusion: We found that there is no fixed management protocol for managing cases of oligohydramnios, and the major determinant of Perinatal outcome are gestational age and etiology. The relation between AFI and Perinatal outcome is modified by gestational age, etiology and protocol of management.
