Abstract

Ultrasound is most effectively used as a rescue technique for arterial access and to identify the location and patency of suitable arteries for cannulation or procedural access. It is particularly useful to identify vessel tortuosity, atheromatous plaques, and difficulties with catheter insertion. recent trends in both pediatric and adult practice show vascular access procedures falling increasingly frequently within the domain of interventional radiology.
