Objective: The aim of our study is to compare the effect of intrauterine administered misoprostol with intravenous infusion of oxytocin during cesarean delivery in prevention of excessive intraoperative and postoperative blood loss. Methodology: This study was carried out in El Kasr alainy hospital on eighty full term pregnant females with no risk factors for postpartum hemorrhage, attending department 10 of kasralainy hospital and indicated for cesarean section. Results and conclusion:From our study we concluded that intrauterine administered misoprostol can be effective in reducing blood loss intra-operatively and within the first 24 hours after cesarean section, and it may be particularly useful in developing countries as an alternative to oxytocin, but still oxytocin is more effective with less adverse reactions. Larger studies involving high-risk populations are necessary to confirm this finding.
