Maternal death is defined as death of any woman whilepregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy,irrespective of the duration and site of pregnancy, from any causerelated to, or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management. The maternal mortality rate is defined as the number ofmaternal deaths per 100.000 women of the reproductive age (15-50) years, while the maternal mortality ratio is the number ofmaternal deaths per 100.000 livebirths.
