Tonsillectomy with or without adenoidectomy continues tobe one of the most common surgical procedures performedworld wide. Evaluation of the role of antibiotics in reductionof post-tonsillectomy morbidity were discussed in this study,A l00 patients aged 12-20 years, both genders all sufferingof recurrent attacks of tonsillitis (more than five times peryear).All patients were subjected to tonsillectomy. Fifty ofthe patients were given postoperative antibiotic andparacetamol for ten days after surgery. The other Fiftypatients were given only paracetamol tablets.We concluded that there was no significant differencebetween the two groups in halitosis, bleeding and fever.A statistically significant difference in reduction of painsensation and time to return to normal diet was foundbetween the two groups.
