Abstract

One of the main features of the Egyptian population over the last fewdecades is the gradual increase in the numbers of older people as a resultof increased life expectancy.Comprehensive geriatric assessment is a diagnostic process intended todetermine an elderly person’s medical, psychosocial, functional, andenvironmental resources and problems, with the objective of developingan overall plan for treatment and long-term follow-up.This study is a cross sectional descriptive one conducted in family healthunits on 100 elderly patients (>65years) attending the family out patientclinic. We found that elderly shared in this research, still have new problems anddisabilities by using comprehensive geriatric assessment, on average of3.4 new problems per patient. Thus, we conclude that screening, using comprehensive geriatricassessment, is worthwhile & can detect unidentified problems in generalpractice.
