Abstract

There are many risks involved in allogenic blood transfusionsand they include transmission of infections, delayedpostoperative wound healing, transfusion reactions,immunomodulation and cancer recurrence. Regardless ofwhether artificial oxygen carriers are available for routineclinical use, further studies are needed in order to show thesafety and efficacy of these substances for clinical practice.
