This is a retrospective study to determined frequency and nature of near miss maternal morbidity(severe acute obstetric events that threatens a woman survival) in this study 5 main diagnostic categories were targeted (hypertension, haemorrhage, infection, dystocia, and anemia).the data was collected from the ICU records in Kasr Elaini hospital during the years (2007-2008-2009). In this study, the most common diagnosis encountered was eclampsia, presented in 58.7% followed by preeclampsia, presented in 17.4%, then APH and PPH, presented in 8.7% of cases (each). followed by septic shock in 4.3% and finally APP plus PPH in 2.2% of cases, while there is no cases of near miss were admitted to ICU under the diagnosis of dystocia ''rupture uterus'' or anemia
