Abstract

The term presbyopia means reduction in the amplitude ofaccommodation, which occurs with aging. It implies recession of the near pointwhile the far point is unaffected. Conventional non-surgical methods ofcorrection of presbyopia include spectacles and contact lenses. Presbyopia nowafter advance in the field of refractive surgery is considered and investigated tobe surgically reversible by many ways at different anatomical regions of theeye. Scleral surgery for presbyopia includes scleral expansion bands performedthrough implanting four arched PMMA implants in scleral tunnel.anteriorciliary sclerotomy, both of which are based on the same principal. According toSchachar theory of accommodation, increase the accommodative power and soreversal of presbyopia can be achieved by increasing the distance between theequator of the lens and ciliary body. The newest method is with erbium YAGlaser.
