Abstract

Preterm premature rupture of the membranes (PPROM) is the classic case whena normal pregnancy becomes suddenly a high-risk one for mother and fetus/neonate. Thiscomplication has been and is still considered as one of the most serious events. It complicates only 2% of pregnancies, but is associated with 40% of pretermdeliveries and can result in significant neonatal morbidity and mortality. In addition there are maternal risks associated with chorioamnionitis. And it managed according to gestational age where delivery is required if it is 34 weeks' gestation or more, whileexpectant management is conducted if it is less than 34 weeks. Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) at term is rupture of membranesprior to the onset of labor at or beyond 37 weeks' gestation. PROM occurs inapproximately 10% of pregnancies. Labor may be induced at the time ofpresentation or patients may be observed for up to 24- 72 hours for the onsetof spontaneous labor. While Spontaneous premature rupture of the membranes (SPROM) is ROMafter or with the onset of labor.
