Abstract

Chronic liver disease (CLD) is considered one of the most prevalent diseases in Egypt. The most prevalent cause is chronic hepatitis C. This study was conducted on 90 patients with CLD attending the Tropical Medicine Department at Kasr El-Aini Hospital. Seropositivity for HCV was reported in 82% of the included patients. Dietary pattern was almost the same among the three Child's classes. Missing one or more of the daily three meals was noted in a good proportion of them. Patients of Child A class had the highest mean of BMI 28.83±26.41 Kg/m2 as well as highest prevalence of obesity 32.1%. The mean serum leptin level among males was 5.6±9.55 ng/ml and that for females was 18.71±4.88 ng/ml. Significant positive relation was found between serum leptin level on one hand and BMI and TSF among male and female patients. But it was insignificantly correlated with lipid profile parameters. Serum albumin was significantly correlated with fats and oils group among Child B class of patients and with sweets and sugars among Child C class of patients.A statistically significant relation was found between total cholesterol and LDL, and their corresponding child score values.
