Atherosclerosis is a worldwide chronic disease which is considered to be one of the important diseases responsible for most deaths in developed societies. Of the established risk factors of atherosclerosis are hypertension, smoking, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, and hyperhomocysteinemia.Recent data provide further early involvement of hemostatic parameter in atherosclerosis, so far a variety of markers of procoagulant tendency have been identified prospectively in atherosclerotic patients as consequence of activated coagulation, enhanced platelet function and activated endothelium. The current study confirms the previous reports of altered hemostatic factor. Furthermore, the study demonstrated the atherothrombogenic properties of lipoprotein (a).
