Abstract
S100B protein is an acidic calcium binding protein that acts intracellularly and extracellularly, it acts through interaction with target proteins within cells and causes neuronal growth extracellularly. It can be assessed in various biological fluids by a series of immunoassays. It proved to be a helpful marker in diagnosis of brain damage in infants and adults and it also helped in detection of the prognosis of brain insults in such cases.
