Objectives: The present study aimed to assess the impact of various risk factors, in particular psychosocial factors, on pain intensity and disability in patients with chronic LBP. Methods: 30 adult patients complaining of chronic LBP of mechanical origin as well as 30 controls were included in this study. Patients were subjected to pain intensity measurement (using VAS, VDS), disability (RODQ) and (CPCI). Both patients and controls were subjected to psychosocial measures (anxiety and depression assessment, SOPA, MHLC, life events interview and Modified Work APGAR).Results: The study showed significant differences between patients and controls regarding anxiety and depression, belief and attitude, locus of control and job dissatisfaction. More pain and disability were found to occur among male heavy manual workers, not adjusting well with pain (SOPA), having externalized locus of control (MHLC), negative coping strategies and job dissatisfaction. Conclusion: We can conclude that LBP is a complex condition involving multiple perspectives for its understanding. And, in patients with LBP, psychological parameters have to be taken into account in any comprehensive concept of conservative treatment.
