Abstract

In this study, we evaluated left ventricular diastolic and systolic function in patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy. Objectives: This study sought to investigate the relation between the extent and distribution of LVH and the degree of disturbed regional and global LV systolic and diastolic function in patients with HCM and HTN, using a TDI technique and to determine whether this technique could be used to discriminate between these 2 groups of patients. Methods: Tissue Doppler analysis (non-invasive ultrasonic methods) for 12 left ventricular segments was performed in all patients compared to control group. Results: Regional left ventricular relaxation abnormalities was found in both groups of LVH. HCM group however was characterized by:(1) Prolongation of time to peak "e" wave, (2) Prolongation of deceleration and isovolumic relaxation times; and (3) Short time to peak "s" wave, in comparison to hypertensive group.
