Abstract

Echocardiography is an extremely useful, safe and noninvasive method for the diagnosis and management of congenital heart diseases in Paediatrics. Over the past several years, the field of Paediatric echocardiography has experienced growth and expansion that can only be described as explosive in nature. The Transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is safe, noninvasive, a way from the surgical field and add significant data during correction of congenital cardiac defects. Intraoperative TEE is essential and its routine use in paediatric open cardiac surgery should no longer be a matter of choice. It allows early and rapid assessment of cardiac structure and function. The use of intraoperative TEE after surgical repair allows early and rapid assessment the detection of residual shunt, outflow tract obstruction of the right ventricle or left ventricle.
