Abstract

This prospective study included diagnosis and treatment of 20 patients with different types of recent parasymphyseal fractures of the mandible. Cases were collected from emergency departments of Kasr Al Aini, and El Mataria teaching hospitals in the period between August 2006 till March 2007.The aim of this study was to compare between different methods of diagnosis and management of recent parasymphyseal fractures of the mandible. This study suggests that rigid internal fixation by plates & screws promotes bone healing without the extensive use of maxillo-mandibular fixation (MMF) avoiding its multiple disadvantages with rapid return to function and patient satisfaction. It provides proper alignment of the fractured segments. Because of its efficacy they represent a preferred and reliable method of internal fixation in cases of anterior mandibular fractures.
