Abstract

Liver histology is considered the gold standard for assessing hepatic fibrosis. However, liver biopsy is associated with sampling error, interobserver variability and substantial complications. Thus there is a need for a simple, inexpensive and reliable non-invasive means to assess disease severity in patients with chronic HCV. Haptoglobin,alpha-2 macroglobulin, Apo A-1, total bilirubin, AST, ALT, AST/ALT ratio , GGT as well as platelet count and age platelet index were evaluated
