Abstract

Recurrent dislocation of the mandibular condyle poses a difficult problem for patients. Among these; many different surgical and non-surgical techniques have been used to treat patients with chronic recurrent dislocation. This study was carried out to assess the efficiency of autologous blood for treatment of tempromandibular joint dislocation.Autologous blood injection is one of the simple non-invasive methods. It has been speculated that injecting blood into joint may lead to heamoarthrosis and cartilage degeneration. We present the results of this treatment carried out in 14 patients with recurrent temporomandibular joint dislocation. Seven patients were restricted with arch bars and elastics for 2 weeks and 7 patients with four tail bandages. Injections were given a follow-up on a 1, 3 and 6-month basis in order to have a sustained effect in limitation the mouth opening.
