This study was done to compare the effect of Phonophoresis and Ultrasound physical therapy on Myofascial Pain Dysfunction Syndrome.We hope to reach by this research to understand the MPDs and the role of physiotherapy in its treatment, 21 female patients (28 sides) were selected for this research. All of them had at least two signs or symptoms which characterized MPDS.Patients were divided into two groups:•1st group: 10 patients (14 sides) were treated with ultrasound physical therapy (US) for 10 sessions, 5 sessions/ week.•2nd group: 10 patients (14sides) were treated by Phonophoresis technique by using anti-inflammatory, pain relieved Gel also for 10 sessions, 5 sessions/ week.Both groups followed up 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months and 3 months after treatment.The results showed that: There was improvement in group 1 regard to pain and muscle tenderness in percentage of 75% which is the same improvement in group 2.Both groups show reduction in the number of trigger points in same level.In Group 1 there was significant increase of mouth opening as the mean of mouth opening before treatment was 32.8 mm and the mean of mouth opening after treatment was 39.8mm. In group 2 there was also significant increase as the mean of mouth opening before treatment was 33 mm and the mean after the treatment 38.1 mm. in group 1 clicking was improved by 60% and in group 2 was improved by 75%.Both groups show the same improvement in jaw deviation by 66.6%.
