Abstract

Orthognathic surgery is one of the highly specialized part of oral and maxillafacial surgery. It gives right opportunity to every individual to live with well proportionaland contoured profile. However, orthognathic procedures require a tremendous amountof planning on the part of orthodontist and maxillofacial surgeon. This is even more truein cases of anterior segmental osteotomy of the jaw Cases should be planned carefully after discussion with an Orthodontist.Diagnostic tools like cephalometry, model surgery and clinical evaluation are of utmostimportance. Also, Pre and post-operative orthodontic treatment is a must to achieve bestresults. This study was a retrospective investigation of the soft changes followinganterior segmental osteotomy on the maxilla in six adult patients with ages ranging from17 to 35 years suffering from dental maxillary protrusion that requires surgical correctionby anterior maxillary osteotomy. For each patient the following data were recorded:Preoperative and Post operative CBCT, photographs, and orthodontic casts were takenbefore and six months after operation to analyze soft tissue changes in terms ofmagnitude and direction in correlation to hard tissue changes using linear and angularmeasurements.
