This study was conducted to monitor, measure and compare the fluoride release and recharging capacity of nano-ionomer compared to conventional restoratives. The materials used in this study were conventional glassionomer (Ketac Fil( and Nano-ionomer (Ketac Nano). Two fluoride solutions with different concentrations for recharging the restorative materials were used which weresodium fluoride solution (0. 2%) and sodium fluoride solution (2.0%). A total number of one hundred and eighty specimens were used in the study wherea Teflon mould with dimensions of (10mm diameter and1mm height) was used to prepare all specimens. Sixty specimens were used for fluoride ion release while one hundred twenty specimens were used for fluoride ion recharging or uptake. All specimens of fluoride release were stored in distilled water for 1 day, 1 month and 3 months then fluoride release was measured using Energy Dispersive Analytical X-ray (EDAX). While specimens of recharging capacity were immersed in sodium fluoride solutions with two concentrations(2.0%)&(0.2%) for 24 hours, 1 month and 3 months. This was determined using EDAX. All specimens were stored at 37C in a special incubator. In both releasing and recharging parts of the study, for one and three months storage periods, storage media were changed weekly and measurements were taken weekly. All specimens were measured for fluoride content before storage. Then, they were stored in the previously described storage media for the pre-mentioned storage periods. The cumulative decrease in fluoride contents over each storage period was calculated for measuring fluoride release capacity. While; the cumulative increase in fluoride contents over each storage period was calculated for fluoride-recharging capacity.
