Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of computer- guided surgical stents for osteotomies in osseous genioplasty and to determine the predictability of soft tissue response in relation to skeletal movement.Patients and Methods: Eight patients with chin deformity were treated by osseous genioplasty using computer- guided surgical templates. The accuracy of these templates in cutting and reposition the chin in addition to determining the predictability of the soft tissue response was assessed preoperatively, virtual treatment plan, immediate and 6- months postoperatively. Results: Regarding the anteroposterior bony changes, there was a significant increase in mean SN-Pog° as a net change between the preoperative, treatment plan and postoperative intervals. While in the interval between the treatment plan and immediate postoperative measurements there was insignificance statistical increase in SN-Pog°. As regarding the antroposterior postoperative bony changes between the immediate and 6-moths postoperative interval, the results showed significant decrease in the SN-Pog°. Regarding antroposterior soft tissue results, significant increase were observed throughout the treatment plan-immediate postoperative periods. Conclusion: Computer aided surgical simulation of chin osteotomy allowed for excellent reproduction of the virtual anatomy, osteotomy position and predicts the proper position of the chin.
