Abstract

The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze preoperative radiological data, preoperative pathologic data, the surgical management, histopathology, and correlate it with postoperative complications for all cases of parotid tumors treated in National Cancer Institute - Cairo from 2007 till November 2014.The main focus was the analysis of the type and adequacy of surgery in relation to the pathology of the tumor, preoperative relevance of radiological and pathologic data, and the factors affecting postoperative complicationsSubjects and Methods : Preoperative radiological data were divided into CT, US, MRI. Radiological data collected were the site of the tumor and radiological prediction of tumor nature.Radiological site was divided into tumor present in the superficial parotid lobe and deep parotid lobe. The radiological prediction of tumor nature was divided into specific tumor pathology, benign and malignant tumors without specifying possible pathology.Fine needle aspiration cytology data (FNAC) were collected. Data of FNAC were divided into the nature of the tumor and specific cytology of the tumor.Results: The sample size consisted of 207 patients. Age ranged from 5 to 88 years( Mean ± SD 44.5±16.1 years).One hundred twenty-one patients were males (58.5%), 86 patients were females (41.5%).
