Abstract

Purpose: Is to assess the use of autogenous bone graft with and without platelet rich plasma in augmentation of anterior mandibular edentulous region.Patients & Methods: The cases had anterior partially edentulous mandible associated with vertical and horizontal alveolar ridge deficiency .All cases were recoconstructed with mandibular ramus bone graft using the tunnel technique. According to the type of bone graft,5 cases were recoconstructed with autogenous bone only(Control group) while the other 5 cases were recoconstructed with autogenous bone and autogenous Platelet Rich Plasma (Test group) .The grafting was assessed clinically as well as radiographically following surgical intervention , two, four and six months post-operatively to assess alveolar bone changes. All data were statistically analyzed. Results: All cases showed good satisfactory clinical results. Radio graphically all cases showed increase in the bone height and width through all periods but there was no statistically significant difference in the increase in bone height at 6 months in the two groups. On the other hand, there was increase in bone density in the two groups through all periods. After 6 months; there was no statistically significant difference between increases in bone density in the two groups. Conclusion: The addition of PRP with autogenous bone in grafting lower anterior mandible has no value regarding bone quality and quantity.
