Abstract

A 3D model was generated from a CBCT to evaluate the effects of skeletally anchored Haas palatal expander using finite element analysis. Methods: A 12 years year old boy was examined and a CBCT was made for him using i-Cat CBCT imaging machine and a model was generated from the obtained CBCT and material properties were inserted and analysis was run, Results revealed low to moderate stress was obtained from the appliance with no stress concentration around the miniscrews and that the mid palatal suture opened in a pyramidal manner and it opened more posteriorly than anteriorly with minimal buccal rolling of the teeth. Conclusions: more skeletal results were obtained than dental and the appliance is a viable treatment option that produced stresses within the physiological limits.
