Fourteen patients were selected from the Prosthodontic Outpatient Clinics, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Cairo University.•All patients selected had mandibular Kennedy class I modification I with a Pier abutment only from one side and all patients selected according to certain criteria demonstrated before .•The fourteen patients were divided into two equal groups where one group had received conventional metal clasp retained lower removable partial denture and the other group had received telescopic crown retained lower removable partial denture .• The retentive quality of both types of partial dentures were measured using the digital forcemeter machine at periodic intervals 0 month , 3months, 6months and 9 months from the delivery time .•In addition, a standardized questionnaire were taken to measure to how much degree the patients were satisfied by which type of treatment. •The results were gathered, tabulated and statistically analyzed using SPSS version 20. Comparing the two groups through the whole study period, the results of this study show that the telescopic crown retained partial overdentures have higher retentive values than the metal clasp retained partial dentures and they should be utilized when greater retention is needed.•It was concluded that the telescopic crown retained partial overdentures have higher retentive values than the metal clasp retained partial dentures.Moreover, the patients were more satisfied by the telescopic crown retained removable partial denture over the conventional metal clasp retained removable partial denture
