Abstract

Purpose: The aim of the study was to compare the effect of the biting force of implant-retained mandibular overdenture between the resilient Bullard telescopic implant retained mandibular overdenture versus the conventional rigid telescopic implant retained mandibular overdenture using the load sensor Methodology: Twenty patients with completely edentulous maxillary and mandibular arches were recruited. Two implants were installed at the lower canine regions after imaging the patients with pantographic X-ray wearing the scan appliance with two metallic balls inserted at the canine regions. Ten patients received conventional telescopic retained overdenture and the other received the Bullard telescopes. After delivery of the prosthesis, biting force was measured using the load star sensor at zero, 3 month and 6 month. Results: The conventional telescopic design showed higher statistically significant values of biting force compared to Bullard telescopes. Conclusion: Rigid telescopic overdentures allow for statistically higher biting force value compared to the “Bullard” resilient telescopic overdenture.
