Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma ranks eighth in frequency among cancers worldwide. It's the most common primary malignant tumor of the liver and is the direct cause of about one million deaths annually. HCC is a common malignancy in Egypt and usually develops on top of cirrhosis of viral origin. The aim of this study is to assess the value of CA 19.9 as a tumor marker in the diagnosis of HCC and correlating it with AFP. This study was conducted on sixty patients who were classified into two groups each including 30 patients. The results of this study showed that there is no correlation between the two markers in diagnosed cases of HCC but further studies are to be considered.
