The study addresses the issue of determining the gap between what is known to be effective in diabetes care and the care that is currently provided through assessment of the diabetes clinic as regards physical layout, clients’ flow and available resources, providers’ performance and clients’ satisfaction ; thus, understanding the best approaches to narrow that gap. The current study is a cross sectional descriptive one conducted in Kasr El Aini Diabetes outpatient clinic from March 2001 to March 2003. The study sample includes service providers offering diabetes care who were regularly available during the study period and diabetics utilizing clinic services. A non-probability sampling technique was used (selection of whatever cases happen to be available). The study tools include exit interview questionnaire, in depth interview, review of records and observation check lists. The study recommended that Kasr El Aini Diabetes Outpatient Clinic requires fresh innovative approaches to act as an advisory, educational, and training resource for other diabetes care facilities. Health education and screening for diabetic complications should be emphasized.
