Abstract

Aim: this study aimed to test the effect of some staining beverages on changing color of demineralized enamel after its remineralization by using tricalcium phosphate and sodium fluoride varnish. Materials and Methods: thirty freshly extracted anterior bovine teeth were collected for this study. Each tooth was soaked in a separate testing cup containing citric acid 0.3% for 3 days and incubated at 37°C. The teeth were treated with Clinpro White Varnish. The remineralized teeth were randomly divided into three equal groups of 10 each, where group A1: the samples were immersed in coffee, group A2: the samples were immersed in tea and group A3: the samples were immersed in cola. Then all the tested samples were stored for 12 hours in the test solutions and incubated at 37°C, in a protocol which is corresponding to a personal consumption of the beverage throughout 15 days period. Results: by using spectrophotometer it was found that there was significant increase in ∆ E mean values after immersion in all staining solutions, the highest for tea (14.7±0.92) then for coffee (11±0.8) and the lowest was for cola (6.1±0.91).Conclusion: The overall color changes of remineralized enamel (∆E) was mostly influenced by the tea solutions more than coffee and cola.
