Abstract

Aim: Assessment of the existing oral and dental health services, in Cairo Governorate, in Ministry of Health (Hospitals, Maternity and Child Welfare Health Centers and Medical centers). Methodology: The dental delivery system assessed in Cairo governorate in year 2009 in governmental sector that belongs to the Ministry of Health. Information’s concerning the distribution of dentists, the dentist population ratio, post graduate training and qualifications of dentists, the number of dental auxiliaries, condition of dental equipments, materials and supplies were reported. These information’s were described and compared with those found in other localities of Egypt such as Giza, Dakahlia and Alexandria governorates as well as some developed and developing countries. Results: Highest number of dental delivery system was found in Medical Centers followed by Maternity and Child Welfare Health Center, while the lowest number was in Complete Welfare Health Center. The dental delivery system in Ministry of Health in Cairo governorate is distributed into 29 Medical Regions that contains 99 General and Specialized Hospitals, Medical Centers, Maternity and Child Welfare Health Center, Medical units and Health Centers. Conclusion: The governmental dentist population ratio in Cairo governorate in the year 2009 was 1: 6455.58. The governmental dentist clinic ratio was 7.12: 1 i.e. about seven dentists were working in one clinic. The governmental dentist dental unit ratio was 5.42:1 i.e. about five dentists were working on one dental unit.
