Abstract

Objective: evaluate the ability of ProRoot MTA (DENTSPLY) and Biodentine (Septodont) in sealing furcal perforation of primary molars using a dye extraction leakage model.Materials and methods: Thirty three molars were divided into three groups (n=11). Furcation perforations were prepared in the pulp chamber floor. Group (A) perforations were sealed using ProRoot MTA, group (B) perforations were sealed using Biodentine. Group (C) acted as a negative control group. Basic fuchsin dye of 1% was applied inside the access cavity. The samples were placed in vials containing 2 ml of concentrated (65 wt %) nitric acid for 3 days. Sample absorbance was read by a spectrophotometer at 545 nm using concentrated nitric acid as a blank. Results: results showed that there was statistically significant difference between MTA, Biodentine and negative control group, (p value< 0.001) while there was no statistical significant difference between MTA and Biodentine (p value = 0.544).Conclusion: Under the conditions of this study, we concluded that ProRoot MTA and Biodentine can be used to repair the furcal perforations in the primary molars efficiently and can be used as alternative to MTA in perforation sealing in primary molars.
